McAllen Commercial Concrete Flatwork

A 12,000 sq ft commercial concrete flatwork project for a retail plaza in north McAllen — including demolition of the existing cracked parking area, new grade beams, reinforced slab, and stamped concrete walkways connecting storefronts.

The Challenge

The existing concrete had extensive cracking and settlement from the RGV's expansive clay soil. The plaza remained open during construction, requiring careful phasing to maintain customer access to all storefronts throughout the project.

Our Solution

We demolished and removed the old slab in phases, working one section at a time so businesses could stay open. We installed a moisture barrier and #4 rebar grid on 18-inch centers to prevent future cracking. The walkways received a stamped sandstone finish with integral color to match the building facade. All work was completed during off-peak hours to minimize disruption.

The Results

The project was completed 2 days ahead of schedule with zero business closures during construction. The property owner reported a 20% increase in foot traffic after the renovation, and the stamped walkways have held up through two Texas summers with no cracking or settlement.
