San Antonio Post Office Storefront Glass Replacement

The storefront glass at the USPS Thousand Oaks Station in San Antonio was shattered, leaving the lobby open to the street. We got there the same day to clear the glass and secure the opening. Then we replaced four oversized insulated commercial glass panels and the bent aluminum framing to bring the building back to standard.

The Challenge

This is an active post office, and it stayed open to the public the whole time. The call came in as an emergency with a 4-hour response window. The broken panels were oversized double-pane commercial glass set in anodized aluminum framing, not a stock size you can pull off a shelf, so the real glass had to be custom-ordered and built. In the meantime the opening had to be cleared of broken glass and made safe without shutting the station down.

Our Solution

We responded inside the required window, cleaned up the broken glass, and boarded the opening so the post office could keep running. Then we measured the frames, ordered four panels of green double-pane insulated commercial glass, and fabricated new anodized aluminum verticals and jambs to match what was already there. Once the work was approved, our glass crew set the new panels, sealed them against the weather, and hauled off every piece of debris.

The Results

The station never closed. The storefront looks like new, with insulated glass and framing that match the original, and the building is sealed and secure again. The Postal Service inspected the finished work and signed off.
